Life Without Cell Phones?

For the first time in more than a year, I forgot my cell phone at home. I feel utterly vulnerable. My mind is racing through "what happens if..." scenarios. I'm sure nothing will happen to me on my way home from work today, but that doesn't stop the worst case scenario from coming to mind.

Zombie Apocalypse.

But, I remember a time when I didn't have a cell phone. I was just fine without one. Now here I am, almost 24 years old and freaking out because I left it at home. My Dad used to make me carry around my "emergency quarter." That way if there was an emergency, all I had to do was find a pay phone and call home.

There was also a time when I memorized all the important phone numbers in my life. I can't even tell you my best friend's or even roommates' numbers. The only reason I know my home phone number is because I had it before I had a cell phone. We just plug people into the phone and never worry about learning their number.

I think my life was simpler back when I didn't have a cell phone, but I'm glad I can use my emergency quarter for laundry.

I leave you humming "Why Haven't I Heard From You?" (Reba McEntire)

  1. Who are you really going to call if you get attacked by zombies? Chances are, they'll be attacked by zombies too. What a waste of wireless minutes.

  2. My Dad. Silly. After he's done killing all our reanimated neighbors, he'll work his way across the country, slaying mindless zombies as he goes.

  3. I'd call you if we were attacked by zombies so you could tell me what to do since you are the expert!

  4. I have already organized our remaining neighbors into an anti-zombie strike force (AZSF). I have equiped them all with chain saws, the most effective anti-zombie weapon. Let me know when you need me and I will deploy the AZSF.
